Injalak produces didjiridus, spears, spear throwers (woomeras),
fighting sticks, clap sticks and carvings. These are all gathered from suitable
trees around the region. Didjiridus, or makos, as they're known
by the Kunwinjku people are formed naturally, by termites eating
out the middle of trees. These are cut to size (various lengths produce various tones), the mouth pieces shaped using
sugar bee wax and then painted in the Oenpelli style. It is the
deep rich tone that is preferred.
The didjiridu has its origins in the top
end of Australia where it was used in
ceremony and for musical entertainment.
